Celine Marie Claudette Dion was born the youngest of fourteen children on March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada. Her first experience singing on stage was at the age of five. She sang a Ginette Reno song at Le Vieux Baril, the piano bar owned by her parents.

With little knowledge of the English language, Dion emerged at the age of 12 as a French star. Her mother and brother helped compose her first song "Ce n'était qu'un rêve (It Was Only a Dream)". They recorded the song and sent it to René Angélil (her eventual manager and husband). Angélil heard the song and was moved to tears by her voice, so he mortgaged his house to fund her first album La voix du bon Dieu in 1981. The record became number one and made her an immediate star in Quebec.

She won recognition in other areas of the world when she took first place at the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo, Japan and the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest.

When Dion was 18, she saw Michael Jackson perform and told Angélil that she wanted to be a performer like him. Angéli knew that she had the voice for the job, but she needed help with her image in order to make the transformation to world-wide stardom. Dion took a break from her successes to receive a physical make-over and to learn English at the École Berlitz School (on VH1's Behind the Music, it was said that Dion learned English in three months).

By 1990 (just a year after she learned English) Dion released her first album entitled Unison. The release launched her into the North American spotlight for the first time. Singles from this album included "Where Does My Heart Beat Now", "(If There Was) Any Other Way" and "The Last to Know". The first was Dion's debut on the Billboard Hot 100 at #4.

In 1991, Dion paired her voice with Peabo Bryson for the title track on Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The single won the Academy Award for Best Song and Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

1992 brought Dion her self-titled album, with classics like "If You Asked Me To"

In 2004, Celine accumulated more than 175 million record sales and was awarded the Chopard Diamond Award from the World Music Awards. The award recognizes her as the “Best –Selling Female Artist in the World”.

Celine Dion is best known for hits such as but not limited to “Beauty and the Beast,” “Where Does My Heart Beat Now,” “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” “My Heart Will Go On,” “Power of Love,” “Because You Loved Me” and many more!
